Job purpose
The Radiographer will safely perform authorised diagnostic imaging procedures and produce technically suitable images for clinical interpretation. The role also involves preparing patients, maintaining imaging records, applying radiation-protection measures and supporting quality improvement within the hospital’s imaging service.
Key responsibilities
- Perform X-ray and other authorised diagnostic imaging procedures.
- Prepare patients and clearly explain the planned imaging procedure.
- Position patients correctly to obtain appropriate diagnostic images.
- Operate imaging equipment safely and according to approved procedures.
- Apply radiation-protection principles to protect patients, staff and visitors.
- Review images for technical quality before submitting them for interpretation.
- Maintain complete and accurate patient and imaging records.
- Follow infection-prevention and control procedures.
- Identify and report equipment faults or maintenance requirements.
- Protect patient confidentiality, privacy and dignity.
- Participate in quality-assurance and service-improvement activities.
- Work closely with clinicians and other healthcare professionals.
Qualifications and skills
- A relevant qualification in Radiography or Medical Imaging.
- Valid professional registration and practising licence where applicable.
- Relevant practical experience will be an advantage.
- Strong technical imaging and patient-care skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and record accuracy.
- Sound understanding of radiation safety and patient protection.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
