Job purpose

Key responsibilities
Laboratory testing
- Perform laboratory tests accurately and according to approved procedures.
- Receive, identify, process and analyse patient specimens.
- Review and verify laboratory results before reporting.
- Document results completely and accurately.
- Communicate critical findings promptly to the appropriate clinical team.
Equipment and supplies
- Operate laboratory equipment safely and correctly.
- Calibrate equipment according to approved schedules and procedures.
- Support preventive maintenance and promptly report equipment faults.
- Monitor stocks of reagents, consumables and other laboratory supplies.
- Report shortages in time to support uninterrupted laboratory services.
Quality and safety
- Conduct required internal quality-control checks.
- Participate in laboratory quality-assurance activities.
- Support laboratory audits and continuous quality improvement.
- Follow infection-prevention and biosafety procedures.
- Comply with occupational-health and laboratory-safety requirements.
- Ensure safe handling, storage and disposal of specimens and waste.
Records and confidentiality
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and supporting documentation.
- Protect patient information and laboratory results.
- Ensure records are handled according to hospital procedures.
- Maintain integrity and accuracy throughout the testing process.
Qualifications and skills
- Diploma or degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognised institution.
- Valid professional registration and practising licence where applicable.
- Relevant laboratory experience will be an advantage.
- Strong analytical, technical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Sound understanding of quality control and laboratory safety.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clinical teams.
- Professionalism, integrity and respect for patient confidentiality.
