Job Purpose Statement

This is a Senior Management position whose holder is responsible to develop, implement, and oversee the bank’s entire risk management strategy to identify, assess, and mitigate potential threats that could impact the achievement of the goals and objectives. This shall involve;

  1. Develop and manage a comprehensive risk-monitoring framework for assessing, identifying, and reducing pertinent business risks that could interfere with the bank's objectives and goals.
  2. Set objectives for measuring, monitoring, evaluating, and mitigating the risk exposure of the bank and ensure that they are reported in a timely manner to regulatory entities and the management of the Bank.
  3. Maintain the risk management function's independence by ensuring that the Head Risk's role shall not have any business generation responsibilities.
  4. Monitor the integrity of risk measurement techniques and MIS that are used to monitor the financial institution's risk profile relative to its risk appetite.
  5. Monitor and ensure proper working of teams involved in market risk, including market risk policy development, risk assessment and measurement tools and models for the market, and mitigation strategies.
  6. Maintain a key role on all important senior management committees, including ALCO, Management Risk Committee, Management Credit Committee, and any other management-level committees relevant from the risk management perspective.
  7. Monitor and ensure proper working of teams involved in credit risk management, including credit risk policy formulation and development, documentation of credit risk management procedures, and determination and monitoring of limits.
  8. Monitor and ensure independent ICT systems and infrastructure reviews for security assessments.
  9. Monitor and ensure proper working of teams involved in operational risk, including risk policy development, review and upgrade, risk identification, loss event management, and mitigation strategies.
  10. Monitor and ensure proper development, execution, and monitoring of the Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP) and its deliberation in the management and board risk management committees.
  11. Supervise the Risk Management team to ensure the delivery of high-quality and professional service to the Bank.
  12. Provide the overall leadership, vision, and direction for risk management.
  13. Ensure that the Bank's risks are properly addressed and in compliance with existing rules and regulations established by local and international regulators.
  14. Coordinate and establish procedures and frequently execute profitability, liquidity, and market risk analyses for the bank.
  15. Comply with AML/CFT/CPF policies and procedures, non -compliance of which shall be addressed as per the bank disciplinary processes.
  16. The Head of Risk shall monitor the ESG risk exposure of the bank.

Ideal Job Specifications

Academic qualifications:

  • Relevant Degree from a recognized University.
  • Postgraduate qualification is an added advantage.
  • FRM, CFA, CPA /ACCA or ACI Certification is desirable
  • A minimum of proven 8 years’ experience, with at least five (5) years at management level.
  • Policy and Regulation interpretation and implementation.
