Makerere University School of Public Health is recruiting two Costing Research Assistants for the Scaling the Optimal Use of Multiple ACTs to Prevent Antimalarial Drug Resistance Project. The successful candidates will support an economic and costing study examining the resources required to introduce and expand Multiple First-line Therapies in Uganda.
This opportunity is best suited to health economists, public-health researchers, monitoring and evaluation professionals and health-services specialists with practical experience collecting financial, costing or resource-use data. Applicants should be comfortable reviewing budgets, expenditure reports, procurement records, inventories and other administrative information.
About the STOP-AMDR Project
Makerere University School of Public Health is implementing the STOP-AMDR Project in collaboration with Jhpiego. The costing component will assess the financial and operational resources needed to introduce and scale up Multiple First-line Therapies as part of Uganda’s response to antimalarial drug resistance.
Who Should Apply?
- Health economics, public health, health-services research or health-management graduates.
- Monitoring and evaluation professionals with experience handling financial or resource-use information.
- Researchers familiar with costing methodologies or economic evaluations.
- Applicants capable of extracting information from financial, procurement and administrative records.
- Candidates proficient in Microsoft Excel and electronic data-collection systems.
- Professionals who can engage health workers, accountants, programme managers and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend study training, orientation and pretesting sessions.
- Support entry into health facilities, district offices and other study sites.
- Collect economic, financial and resource-use data according to the study protocol.
- Extract information from budgets, financial records and expenditure reports.
- Review procurement, inventory, payroll and supervision records.
- Interview programme managers, health workers, accountants, store managers and procurement officers.
- Explain the study and administer informed consent.
- Complete costing tools and electronic data-collection forms accurately.
- Verify and reconcile collected information and follow up on identified discrepancies.
- Organise, clean and document costing datasets.
- Provide progress updates during team debriefing meetings.
- Maintain the confidentiality and security of research information.
- Perform other assignments given by the Project Coordinator or investigators.
Qualifications and Skills
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Health Economics, Health Services Research, Public Health, Health Services Management, Monitoring and Evaluation or a related field.
- Training in economic evaluation.
- Experience collecting costing or economic-evaluation data.
- Familiarity with relevant costing methodologies.
- Ability to review financial, procurement, inventory and administrative records.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to use ODK, REDCap, SurveyCTO, KoboToolbox or a comparable electronic data-collection platform.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines.
Added Advantage
Certification in Human Subjects Protection or Good Clinical Practice will be an added advantage.
