Jobspace Uganda Vacancy Summary
The Biomedical Technician will help keep specialised medical equipment safe, functional and available for patient care. The work includes equipment records, preventive maintenance, fault diagnosis, repair support, user guidance and technical reporting. In a cardiac institution, careful maintenance and escalation are essential because equipment reliability directly affects clinical services.
Why This Role Matters
A strong application should show disciplined technical practice, not only the ability to repair a device. Highlight how you identify a fault, protect patients and users, document the intervention, test the equipment and decide whether it can safely return to service. Exposure to hospital equipment, calibration, electrical safety or planned maintenance should be clearly described.
Who Should Consider Applying?
- Biomedical technicians trained in maintenance of medical equipment.
- Technical staff with practical hospital or clinical-engineering exposure.
- Applicants who combine hands-on troubleshooting with careful documentation.
- Candidates comfortable explaining equipment use to non-technical colleagues.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain an accurate inventory and maintenance history for assigned equipment.
- Carry out or support preventive maintenance according to approved schedules.
- Diagnose faults, complete appropriate repairs and escalate work outside authorised competence.
- Support equipment users with safe operating guidance.
- Contribute to service planning and produce clear equipment-status reports.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Diploma in Biomedical Technology from a recognised institution.
- Practical understanding of preventive maintenance, fault diagnosis and equipment safety.
- Ability to maintain technical records and communicate with clinical users.
- Commitment to following approved procedures and escalating high-risk faults.
How to Make Your Application Competitive
- List relevant medical equipment and testing tools without exaggerating competence.
- Describe one fault from diagnosis through verification after repair.
- Show experience using preventive-maintenance schedules and service records.
- Attach the diploma and any relevant technical training evidence.
Questions to Prepare for Before an Interview
- What steps do you follow before returning repaired equipment to clinical use?
- How do you prioritise several equipment faults reported at the same time?
- How would you explain a recurring operator-related fault to clinical staff?
Application Procedure
Prepare a cover letter, an updated CV, academic and professional certificates and transcripts, an O-level certificate, an A-level certificate where applicable, a copy of the National ID and evidence of experience where required. Applicants whose professions require registration should also include the applicable registration certificate and valid practising licence. Address the application to The Executive Director, Uganda Heart Institute, P.O. Box 37392, Kampala. Submit it by email to erecruitment@uhi.go.ug or hand-deliver it to UHI Headquarters, Mulago, Kampala. Incomplete applications and applications sent to another email address are not accepted. The deadline is 11 November 2026 at 5:00 PM Uganda time.
