Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) is a public Limited Company, fully
owned by the Government of the Republic of Uganda and holds the following operational
licences. System Operator, Operation of the High Voltage Transmission Grid, Bulk Power
Supply, Import and Export of Power and; Public Infrastructure Provider (for ownership and
operation of the Optic Fibre).

UETCL invites applications from suitable and eligible candidates to fill the position of:
Job title: Maintenance Engineer (Substations)-04
Department: Network Operations & Maintenance Department
Reports to: Senior Maintenance Engineer (Substations)
Job Purpose:
Responsible for ensuring efficient operation, reliability and safety of primary transmission
substation equipment and facilities specific to power transformers, auxiliary systems, voltage
regulating equipment and switchgear. The role involves planning and executing preventative
and corrective maintenance activities to minimize downtime and maintain optimal
performance.
Key Result Areas
1. Executing preventative & corrective maintenance equipment
• Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules
• Respond promptly to breakdowns and emergency repairs
• Perform routine inspections of equipment and systems
2. Equipment and system monitoring.
• Monitor equipment performance and improvement opportunities.
• Maintain records of equipment performance and maintenance history
3. Compiling specific job requirement (i.e. tools, manpower equipment, logistics and
materials) for expeditious planned maintenance and emergencies, while ensuring
attainment of set technical, financial and safety targets.
4. Installation and commissioning of substation plants, equipment and auxiliary circuits
before placement in service, after repairs and modifications and on recovery from
service.
5. Health Safety & Compliance
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and UETCL policies
• Conduct risk assessment before maintenance activities
• Maintain safe working practices and proper use of PPE.
6. Documentation and Reporting
• Compile and update a database of all substation drawing, plant equipment tools and
consumables inventory.
• Maintain maintenance logs and technical documentation
• Prepare job reports as well as weekly and monthly maintenance progress and activity
reports.
7. Management of substation maintenance unit testing equipment store (i.e maintain
accurate records of all tools and equipment, inspect testing equipment regularly for
damage or defects, issue tools to authorized personnel & record transactions, receive
returned tools and inspect for damage)
The desired person should have the following essential requirements.
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from a recognised institution.
• Three (3) years’ experience in maintenance of power transformers and high voltage
switchgear.
• Willing to work hours outside the normal hours
• A person of integrity, highly motivated, innovative, proactive and committed team
player.
• Willing to work anywhere in the country.
