Our work in Uganda
In Uganda, ZOA has offices in Kampala, West Nile (Arua), Acholi (Kiryandongo), & Karamoja (Amudat). ZOA Uganda works both in relief and recovery on the themes of food security & livelihoods, WASH, Education, and peace building with a special focus on land security. ZOA Uganda is looking for 2 Research Assistants to work in Aleptong, Lira, Bulambuli, Kapchorwa, Bududa and Mbale to support the KAP Survey.
Activity background
ZOA Uganda is implementing the Agricultural Governance Results Improvement Project (A‑GRIP) in Consortium with Cordaid and with funding from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (EKN). The KAP survey will be conducted in the 14 AGRIP districts, The survey is intended to generate baseline evidence on land actors’ knowledge, perceptions, and practices related to land governance, land rights, customary land documentation, dispute resolution, gender inclusion, and community engagement. The activity will involve direct engagement with district and subcounty land governance stakeholders using participatory data collection methodologies.
Your main tasks and responsibilities
- Participate in the research assistants training/Orientation
- Perform field data collection and management activities, administer informed consent, conduct and complete interviews in accordance with the study protocol.
- Ensure that data entered in Kobo tool Box application is accurate and complete
- Answer or refer questions that the respondents may ask before or during the course of data collection.
- Collect data and participate in data management processes including validation to ensure the data meets the quality standards as defined by ZOA.
- Ensure daily uploads of the data into the server.
- Report key issues of concern during data collection and hand them over to the ZOA team at the end of each day.
- Ensure high-level data protection and integrity
- Conduct Key informant and in-depth interview for the study with selected respondents.
- Participate in the transcription of qualitative data and handover hardcopies of this data to ZOA staff
- Provide the Team Leader with daily updates including interviews completed, and any other important information about assigned participants
- Any other duties assigned by the data collection team leaders or the project manager.

Knowledge, Skills & experience:
- Minimum holder of Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE), or any other related discipline or equivalence.
- Proficiency in both spoken and written English and Langi or Lumasaba is an added advantage.
- Prior experience in conducting face to face interviews and note taking.
- Prior experience in collecting data using quantitative and qualitative data collection methods
- Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills and ability to follow study specific procedures and guidelines reliably.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, under stringent deadlines
- Applicant should be a resident of locations mentioned or familiar with the language spoken.
Special conditions/circumstances
This is a short-term contract that will be paid according to the number of days worked for. Research Assistants will be called upon based on the specific needs of the data collection process.
Payment of Professional fees will be effected after completion of the data collection exercise and handing over of the tablets through mobile money transfers. ZOA will provide transportation Refund to the Research Assistants during the period of engagement through mobile money transfer.
